Dustin Farnum as David Crockett
Actor and film director William Desmond Taylor directed silent screen star Dustin Farnum in Davy Crockett. Released in 1916, it was based on the play featuring Frank Mayo and was produced by the Pallas Pictures studios in Los Angeles with some scenes filmed in the San Bernardino Mountains. In its review of the film, a reporter for the Knoxville Sentinel noted, “Real bears and hungry wolves make the outdoors right there before you, and Mr. Farnum has the advantage in such roles of being a real lover of nature and knowing how to paddle and shoot and do all the out-of-doors ‘stunts’ almost like a real native American Indian—and ride? You can always expect some fine horsemanship in a ‘Dusty Farnum’ picture.” No copies of the film exist.
